Lufthansa Technik and Diehl Aerosystems have developed a new cabin monument for the Airbus A320 family, and intend to unveil it at the Aircraft Interiors Expo which opens in Hamburg on 4 April.
The monument, to which Lufthansa Technik gives the name "High-Density Solution", combines the aft galley and a dual lavatory in a single cabin element.
This, says the German MRO provider, saves 150kg in weight while creating space for six additional passenger seats without a change in seat spacing, thereby upping the A320's capacity to 186 passengers.
LHT adds that a video display system obviates the need for a crew seat in the rear of the cabin. "This expensive, difficult and maintenance-intensive installation can now be omitted completely," it says.
Depending on configuration, the monument can hold up to 19 standard container and eight half-size trolleys in the galley area while also accommodating coffee machines and ovens. USB charging ports are installed.
