Airbus has rolled out the first ultra long-range Airbus A350-900, the variant which is destined to be delivered initially to Singapore Airlines.
The aircraft, yet to be fitted with its Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines, is being transferred to an outdoor station for ground tests, says the airframer.
Airbus adds that it will undergo a "short" flight-test programme to check the modifications which give the -900ULR its long-range capabilities – including the adapted fuel system which provides for 24,000 litres of extra fuel.
It will have a maximum take-off weight of 280t.
"The test phase will also measure enhanced performance derived from aerodynamic improvements, including extended winglets," adds Airbus.
The -900ULR will have a range of up to 9,700nm.
Singapore Airlines plans to use the twinjet on services to New York. It is to receive seven of the variant.
