Lufthansa Group carrier Swiss is to add premium economy to its long-haul fleet from spring 2021, initially on its Boeing 777-300ERs.
The airline says it will carry out cabin conversion work in the 2020-21 winter season. It will debut, with a 24-seat section, its premium economy product on its 777-300ERs though a SFr40 million ($40 million) investment.
Swiss says this will be extended to its full long-haul fleet in the medium term, without specifying a timeframe.
Cirium's Fleets Analyzer shows Swiss operates 10 777-300s - and has a further two on order. It also operates 14 A330s and five A340s.
"In introducing the new class of travel, Swiss is responding to a growing demand for an air travel product between Economy and Business Class," the Star Alliance carrier says. "The decision to offer the new seating class has also been encouraged by the positive experiences with such a product at Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines, Swiss's sister companies within the Lufthansa Group."
Lufthansa launched it own premium economy product on its Boeing 747-8s in 2014.
