HWA-HSIA LEASING, a Taiwan-based leasing company, has been named as the previously unidentified buyer of MD-90s revealed in July by McDonnell Douglas (MDC).

The first three MD-90s on firm order will be delivered in August, September and October of 1998. Follow-on orders, "contingent on final agreements and approvals still pending," says MDC, will be delivered in 1999 and 2000. Aircraft will be leased to Asia-Pacific-based carriers for domestic and regional international services.

MD-90 orders now stand at 125, with 18 delivered, including the first TrunkLiner for China Northern Airlines, which arrived in Shenyang, China, on 1 August. Three MD-90s are scheduled for delivery to China by the end of 1996, with three due in 1997, three more scheduled for 1998 and two due in 1999.

The first Chinese-assembled MD-90 is scheduled for delivery in 1998. MDC holds options for 78 MD-90s.
