Brazilian maintenance supplier TAP Maintenance and Engineering has won FAA approval to add Embraer E-170/190 jets to its product offering.

The E-Jet maintenance approval follows a similar endorsement from Brazilian authorities for the aircraft family in October. In August the MRO also won FAA certification for heavy maintenance of Airbus A330/A340 aircraft.

TAP points out that the bilateral agreement between Brazil and Canada also allows it to perform E-Jet maintenance on aircraft registered in Canada.

In 2008 TAP painted two Embraer E-190s for Brazilian start-up Azul, and also signed a general terms agreement with the carrier, "thus showing its intention to be responsible for the general maintenance of its fleet", the company says in a statement.

TAP Maintenance and Engineering was created on 2005 when the Portuguese carrier acquired a controlling stake in VEM, which was created in the aftermath of Varig's bankruptcy.
