Qantas Airways is negotiating with Tasman Pacific Airlines over purchasing Qantas New Zealand. Tasman Pacific operates the domestic airline under a franchise agreement with Qantas, which has no financial interest in the company. The Australian airline entered the talks following reports in New Zealand that its franchisee was facing worsening financial difficulties. Tasman Pacific bought the former Ansett New Zealand thirteen months ago from News Corp.
