In response to Andrew Lee's letter, "Irresponsible Journalism?" (Flight International, 8-14 January), I cannot see why it is irresponsible for journalists to show that it is still possible to take weapons on an aircraft.

There is a lot of public and media attention focused on aviation security and the aviation industry must be seen to be secure. The travelling public has to be reassured to feel safe enough to be customers.

The analogy with rail travel is pretty irrelevant. A bomb or hijacking incident on a train, although possibly very serious, has much less potential for carnage than that of an incident on a passenger aircraft.
