Thai Airways International has picked Sumeth Damrongchaitham as its new president.
The decision was made at a board meeting on 19 May. Negotiations on the employment contract are underway, before a formal appointment will be made.
Usanee Sangsingkeo, who has held the role of acting president since the retirement of Charamporn Jothikasthira in February 2017, will retire from the carrier in September.
Damrongchaitham does not appear to have an aviation background. He is the managing director at Dhanarak Asset Development, a government-owned company set up to manage state assets and properties. He has also held senior roles at Thanachart Capital and Thai entertainment conglomerate GMM Grammy.
