Within a very tight time schedule and facing limited budgets, RUAG is modifying a second batch of its Dornier 228-212 utility aircraft fleet to fulfill the growing demands of the Royal Thai armed forces for surveillance capabilities.

Civilian tasks such as fishery patrol as well as military surveillance or anti-piracy missions are also in line to make use of the reliable and cost efficient aircraft.

As part of the modification, the Honeywell Flight Management System (FMS) and new Air Data Computers (ADC) have been installed and linked with the Telephonics RDR-1500B search and surveillance radar.

Together with a specially developed and customised track-while-scan computer and an improved version of RUAG's Aerospace Services' Operator Console, the aircraft now provide maximum ergonomic features for the mission operators.

Reduced workload and enhanced storage capabilities of surveillance data are the basis for increased mission efficiency of this new system.
