Thai Airways International plans to decommission 50 aircraft over the next six years, up from its previous aim of retiring 38 aircraft.
This is "due to to fleet planning changes and the availability of leased aircraft", said Thai's spokeswoman.
The Star Alliance carrier will decommission 13 Airbus A300-600s from 2011 to 2015. Six Boeing 747-400s and four Airbus A340-500s will be retired from 2012 to 2013, and six Airbus A340-600s from 2015 to 2017.
From 2014 to 2015, Thai will decommission nine Boeing 737-400s. Five Boeing 777-300ERs, which are leased from India's Jet Airways, will leave Thai's fleet in 2015.
In 2017, the carrier will decommission two Boeing 777-200s, three Airbus A330-300s and two ATR-72s.
Thai has cancelled plans to retrofit aircraft seats on the A340s due to their retirement.
The airline plans to sell all of its own aircraft that it is retiring.
Thai said on 13 June that it will acquire eight Boeing 787s and 12 Airbus A350s from 2012 to 2017 as part of a 37-aircraft acquisition worth Thai baht (Bt) 119 billion ($3.89 billion).
It plans to buy 38 aircraft for delivery from 2018 to 2022 in the second phase.
