French electronics company Thales has won a €70 million ($93 million) contract from Sukhoi Civil Aircraft to become sole developer and supplier of cockpit display, communication, navigation and surveillance systems for the Russian Regional Jet (RRJ) family.

The Thales contract is part of a protocol on industrial co-operation and covers the delivery of the first batch of RRJ avionics equipment. The protocol follows a bilateral agreement between the Russian and French governments, also signed in 2004.

Thales' involvement is expected to last 10-15 years and continues the company's long- standing relationship with Sukhoi. Thales is already the integrator for retrofitting avionics on Sukhoi Su-30 fighters.
