American Champion has restarted production of the 7EC Champ single-engined turboprop after receiving a type certificate from the US Federal Aviation Administration in late March, more than four decades since production of the line ceased in 1965. Weighing in at 600kg (1,320lb), the new Champ is almost 90kg leaner than the original, and as such, qualifies for the Light Sport category. The company plans to sell the Continental O-200-A-powered aircraft for $85,900, producing about 30 a year.
