Arguably the most exciting part of Monday's aerial display happened long after most visitors had left Farnborough.

Yevgeny Frolov conducted his thrust-vectored Sukhoi Su-37 around the Hampshire sky in an astonishing series of manoeuvres never seen before in public.

Ironically, his display was a ‘validation' flight as he got into trouble with the show's flying control committee when rehearsing on Friday.

Thrust vectoring enables Frolov to treat watchers to a ‘super-cobra' as well as other seemingly impossible gyrations.

As someone said: "Gee, that thing's just re-written the rules of air fighting." Whatever you do, don't miss it!

Even without the Su-37, Monday's display kept the crowds entertained.
