A year ago when Giovanni Bisignani outlined bold plans to make Opodo Europe's leading website for air travel, onlookers worried that the claim sounded a little too ambitious. Yet a year later, the travel site, owned by nine European flag-carriers, is already top in its first launch market of Germany and on the way in the UKand France.

Plans abound to extend the site to new markets, new leisure products and even perhaps an offering for small businesses, but those plans will have to run without Bisignani as he leaves to take up the fresh challenge at IATA
