A new breed of turboprop is winging its way to the Middle East.
Gulf Aircraft Maintenance Company (Gamco) of Abu Dhabi and Farnborough Aircraft Corporation have signed an MOU to manufacture and market the piston single Kestrel aircraft, initially in the Gulf region and subsequently worldwide.
With cruise speeds of up to 350kt (650km/h) and a range of 1,500nm (2,800km), the Kestrel is capable of short field operations and will be aimed at the business market. The aircraft will make its first flight in early 2006. The company expects first deliveries of the FAA certificated version to be in 2008.
