Cost-cutting and optimisation is something every business wants, and one way to achieve this is by increasing throughput and greater profitability through shorter cycle times and faster tool changes.
Sandvik Coromant has experience in helping manufacturers achieve these goals. Recently it helped reduce milling time on an alloy steel hydraulic body by 63% for a major manufacturer.
This led to a formal productivity improvement programme that identified some e50,000 in potential annual savings, ultimately resulting in a e450,000 payoff by introducing a quick-change modular tooling system.
A particular example – using end mills with conventional carbide inserts – meant the cycle time on one of the larger fittings was nearly 20 minutes. Using the Sanvik solution the cycle time is reduced to 7.5min.
