The US Air Force has chosen Rockwell Science Center and Santa Barbara Research Center to develop advanced very-long-wavelength infra-red detectors. It awarded Rockwell a $6 million contract to begin the research-and-development effort. Santa Barbara Research received $8 million. The contracts run through to February 2001. Four firms were solicited and three proposals received.
