Sir - There seems to be a persistent misunderstanding about the origins of the Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6 engines which power the Harbin Y-12 (Flight International, 12-18 April, P10).

All engines used in the Y-12, produced both for the export or the Chinese markets, were (and continue to be) built in Montreal, Canada, by P&WC.

A licence agreement was concluded with China in 1986 for the PT6A-27 and the PT6A-34, but is not yet implemented, although discussions continue.
