Sir - What a great money-saving idea from R A Peacock ("A bi-plane Airbus could be the answer", Letters, Flight International, 30 October-5 November, P47). Let's do something similar with a Eurofighter EF2000/Spitfire hybrid, emphasising unit cost.

The cost of a Second World War Spitfire was 5,000. Take today's equivalent and double that price - then add UK technical ingenuity to produce an interceptor, which would compete with any of the overpriced flying computers worldwide.

If the UK goes it alone, and pays for it in sterling, it could have such an aircraft in squadron service come the millennium.
