Northrop Grumman has flown the third prototype RQ-8A Fire Scout vertical take-off and landing tactical unmanned air vehicle at the US Navy's China Lake Naval Air Warfare Center, California. The prototype demonstrated a fully autonomous mission, including start, take-off, forward flight, hover/hold and land. The USN has decided not to put Fire Scout into full production beyond technology demonstration and low rate initial production.
