Thomson Training &Simulation (TTS) is planning to build and operate two mission simulators under a UK Ministry of Defence contract to provide the Royal Air Force's Panavia Tornado GR4 synthetic training service.

TTS was selected in November as the preferred bidder to provide Tornado training under the UK's Private Finance Initiative. Under the contract being negotiated, the company will install the mission simulators in squadron training centres to be built at RAF Lossiemouth and RAF Marham.

A contract option will cover a third mission simulator and associated flight training devices to be located at Lossiemouth for conversion training. TTS says training under the Tornado GR4 contract is scheduled to begin in May 2001.

Manufacturing Engineering Systems has ordered three-channel Space Magic visual systems from TTS for installation on two Raytheon TC-12B flight training devices being built for the US Navy. The devices will enter service at NAS Corpus Christi, Texas, early next year.

A flight simulator for the upgraded Transall C160NG transport aircraft, manufactered by TTS and equipped with the company's Space visual system, has entered service with the French air force, at Francazal AB.
