It isn't only aircraft which are causing a stir at the show this week. Five luxury cars which have been turning heads in the central plaza are up for grabs in a daily raffle. The total value of the vehicles - which include the ultimate in executive road travel, a silver-pearl Bentley Brooklands - is pushing the $750,000 mark.

Show visitors are being asked to shell out Dh500 ($140) for a ticket in the grand draw which is being promoted as the Dubai '97 Airshow Surprise - a plug for Dubai Duty Free's ongoing 'Greatest Surprise' raffle which follows the same format.

If that ticket price sounds a little steep, consider that there are only 1,000 tickets on sale. Yesterday it was a gleaming Mercedes Benz CL500 on offer.

The winning ticket drawn after 6pm last night was number 0142 and won by Mr M.A. Al Zalooni.

The rest of the week's prizes are a Porsche 911 Carrera, a BMW 750iAL, a Mercedes Benz SL500 and finally the Bentley.
