Singapore low-cost carrier Tigerair and CAE Oxford Aviation Academy have entered a deal for the training of new first officers for Airbus A320 aircraft.
Under the multi-crew pilot licence (MPL) programme, CAE Oxford will train cadets in both Singapore and Melbourne, Australia, Tigerair said in a statement. An initial group of 10 cadets will enrol in the MPL programme later this year.
"In support of this programme as well as other regional programmes, CAE Oxford plans to open an ab initio ground school training location within CAE's new training centre in Singapore," says Tigerair. "This will enable the delivery of certain phases of cadet training to aspiring Singaporeans in-country and will provide regional airlines with cadet training solutions."
The cadets will undergo ground school training in Singapore before travelling to Australia for flight training. They will return to Singapore for training on CAE's A320 full-flight simulator.
"Tigerair's growth requires a steady supply of highly qualified and well-trained pilots. Tigerair Singapore operates 21 A320s, while Tigerair Australia, Tigerair Mandala and Tigerair Philippines operate 11, eight and five of the type respectively.
