UK and US transport departments are racing to conclude open skies negotiations ahead of an assumed transfer of bargaining rights to the European Commission early next year. Officials from both sides of the Atlantic have been assessing the details of the American Airlines/British Airways antitrust immunity application and a similar request from BMI British Midland and United Airlines. Continental Airlines' president Larry Kellner has been joined by Virgin Atlantic Airways chairman Richard Branson in condemning the haste of the review during this uncertain time for the air transport industry.
