Raytheon has started negotiations with Williams International on developing a smaller version of its F122 engine for use with the Tactical Tomahawk missile. At the same time, Raytheon has ordered Teledyne Continental Motors to cease development work on the J402 engine for the weapon as Teledyne is unable to demonstrate the required performance improvement and has told Raytheon that the J402 cannot meet the fuel efficiency and maximum thrust requirement within timescales. The F122 powers the German/Swedish Taurus.
