Top US Department of Transportation and Open Skies official to resign

A top US Department of Transportation (DOT) official and Open Skies negotiator will soon resign his post.

Jeffrey Shane, DOT undersecretary for transportation, has informed President George W. Bush and DOT Secretary Mary Peters that he intends to resign, a DOT spokesman confirms.

DOT was unable to release a timeline for Shane’s departure, or the status of a replacement process.
