Japan’s Fire and Disaster Management Agency has completed trials of an automatic helicopter tracking system, developed by Pioneer Navicom and using Iridium satellites, that transmits GPS position to ground stations, uplinks messages to aircraft and provides a real-time moving-map display of helicopter location and movement to ground controllers and pilots.
