Malaysia Airlines (MAS) and FlightSafety Boeing Training International (FSBTI) are to create an aviation training joint venture in Kuala Lumpur, it was announced at the show yesterday.

MAS executive vice-president Dato Bashir and FSBTI president Wake Smith signed a memorandum of understanding at the show which sets up the long-term agreement whereby MAS will use the joint venture as its exclusive training provider.

It also allows FSBTI to offer training to other carriers in the region.

"The Asian Regional Aviation Training Centre will be the centre of excellence for flight and technical training for the Asia region," says Dato Bashir.

"It will provide complete training requirements for pilots and aircraft engineers for Malaysia Airlines as well as FlightSafety Boeing's Asian customers."

For FSBTI, the announcement is a major step in building its training presence throughout the world.
