The Eurojet consortium's first Tranche 2 production example of the EJ200 turbofan engine completed its first flight test using the Italian air force's Eurofighter IPA2 instrumented production aircraft on 1 October. Flown from Turin Caselle airport, the aircraft - which also used one Tranche 1 engine - performed supersonic flight and handling tests, says Eurojet. IPA2 will perform a further series of trials in November and December using two of the new-generation engines, which will power Tranche 2 Eurofighters delivered from 2008.
