A Britten-Norman BN2-A MkIII-2 Trislander (G-BEVT) operated by Aurigny Airlines has been involved in two incidents in less than a year involving a propeller de-icing boot being shed during flight.
The UK Air Accidents Investig-ation Branch (AAIB) report says the adhesive bonding between the boot and propeller has been found to be imperfect on “approximately 100” of the Hartzell propellers on Islanders and Trislanders it inspected. “The quality of the adhesive bond is dependent upon meticulous adherence to correct procedures and practices – quite minor deviations in the process can cause a reduction in bond strength,” it says.
The Aurigny Trislander threw a propeller boot in incidents on 23 July 2004 and 24 April 2005 flying in the British Channel Islands.
