The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has urged the US Federal Aviation Administration to develop inspection criteria and impose wear limits on the slat-drive system of the Lockheed L-1011 TriStar. The recommendation follows an accident to a Trans World Airlines L-1011 in August 1996 which scraped its fuselage on landing at New York's Kennedy International Airport after its slats failed to deploy during the approach.
