Rolls-Royce (R-R) says that production of more than 100 Turbo-Union RB.199s for 48 additional Panavia Tornado GR.1 strike aircraft which have been ordered by the Royal Saudi Air Force will help enable it to "...match military capacity to workload". The Turbo-Union consortium, which consists of R-R, MTU and FiatAvio, to date has produced more than 2,400 RB.199s for all variants of the Tornado.

RB.199s were also used to power the first Euro-fighter EF 2000 prototypes for early flight testing, before the maiden flight of a Euro-jet EJ200-powered EF2000 was carried out in 1995.
