Quito airport workers are clearing volcanic ash from a recent eruption, but Ecuador's aviation faces more turbulence. With most of the country's trans-border routes operated by foreign carriers, Grupo Taca is joining LanChile in launching local units in December. Both have route authority to the USA. Peru's AeroContinente is still looking for an entree into this market. It has given up on Ecuatoriana, but the partial privatisation of Tame, also set for December, may open another door.
