Singapore Technologies Aerospace and France's Sagem are the final contenders for the Turkish air force's $100 million Northrop F-5 upgrade programme, with a final decision expected by the end of 1997.
Five teams submitted initial bids for the 48-aircraft upgrade programme in the first quarter of 1997. As well as STA, teamed with Israel Aircraft Industries and Elbit, Eidetics, Northrop Grumman, Sagem and Sierra Technologies are all reported to have responded.
The STA upgrade proposal is based on the work it has carried out with Elbit for the Republic of Singapore Air Force's F-5s.
The other team member, IAI, is already implementing a sizeable upgrade programme covering 54 of the Turkish air force's McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom strike aircraft.
