General manager of the Turkish Civil Aviation Authority Sermet Unel has been arrested on a charge of taking bribes from airlines. He was video recorded by police apparently receiving money from Turkish airline Air Rose, which had warned the authorities in advance of Unel's alleged $50,000 demand, according to Reed Aerospace on-line news service Air Transport Intelligence. Unel is alleged to have demanded cash to permit Air Rose to fly after its fleet had reduced below the minimum size required by Turkish air law.
