The Israeli air force shouldadjust its future procurement programmes for combat helicopters and manned fighters, including Lockheed Martin’s F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, because of the expected capabilities of unmanned air vehicles now under development in Israel, says a senior defence ministry source.

Some of Israel’s classified UAV programmes will “enable UAVs not only to substitute for manned aircraft, but to top their capabilities dramatically”, says the official. The new systems are expected to undertake several missions now conducted using manned aircraft.
