The UK aerospace industry grew by 8% between 1996 and 1997, with a turnover increased to £15.06 billion ($24.5 billion), according to figures from the Society of British Aerospace Companies. Military business continued to dominate, with 54%. Overall sales represented 12.5% of the global aerospace market, second to the USA. A further 2% of the market is accounted for by UK-owned assets overseas. Almost £14 billion in new orders were placed, over 50% outside the European Union.
