The UK Ministry of Defence has concluded a review in its options for basing the Lockheed Martin F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) and BAE Systems Nimrod MRA4, respectively naming Royal Air Force bases at Lossiemouth and Kinloss to host the types. The MoD assessed eight sites as possible locations for the JSF – which it refers to as the Joint Combat Aircraft – and has retained Cottesmore and Marham as possible candidates should it decide to establish a second base. The review rejected on cost grounds a proposal to move MRA4 operations to RAF Waddington.
