The UK Ministry of Defence is considering a technology demonstrator programme to modify a British Aerospace Sea Harrier F/A2 with an upgraded Rolls-Royce Pegasus.

A fleet retrofit could follow successful trials, and the MoD has previously said that including the Royal Air Force's Harrier GR7s in such programmes would be considered as an option (Flight International, 5-11 November, 1997). A request for quotation could be issued by the MoD in the second quarter of this year.

Rolls-Royce is likely to offer its Pegasus 11-61 powerplant for such a requirement.
