UK investigators have been assigned the task of retrieving and examining the flight-recorder data from the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777-200ER lost over Ukraine.
The recorders have been formally transferred from separatist representatives in the Donetsk region of the country to Malaysian officials.
But the UK's Department for Transport confirms that the Air Accidents Investigation Branch has been asked to carry out the data analysis of the cockpit-voice and flight-data recorders from flight MH17.
It adds that personnel from the agency will also continue working in Ukraine to assist the international investigation.
MH17 crashed east of Donetsk on 17 July, with the loss of all 298 passengers and crew.
