While the UK and USA prepare for the next round of open skies talks in June, UK cargo carriers have been raising the temperature on one of the cargo issues in the talks - the US ban on its carriers wet-leasing foreign aircraft.

UK cargo airlines point out that US lessor Atlas has built a large international business leasing freighters and are pushing for a lifting of the ban to enable them to lease to US carriers.

The UK Government has ordered British Airways to terminate its leases of Atlas Boeing 747-400Fs after the British Cargo Airline Alliance objected.

The objectors cited a European Union regulation, which limits leasing of foreign aircraft.
