The UK Ministry of Defence is within weeks of advancing two key projects to support its network-enabled operations for the next three decades, with initial requirements to be released for its Dabinett surveillance architecture and an assessment to also start on its Listener data-fusion effort.

Initial requirements for Project Dabinett are anticipated in the near future, says General Dynamics Mission Systems UK vice-president Danny Milligan, who adds: "We expect the first four phases to be competed next year." GD also expects to receive a contract in early October to launch the 10-month assessment phase of Project Listener, which seeks a data fusion capability to support the UK's intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance activities. L-3 Communications will conduct a parallel study.

Listener technologies could equip the Royal Air Force's British Aerospace Nimrod R1 electronic intelligence, Boeing E-3D airborne warning and control system and Raytheon Systems Sentinel R1 airborne stand-off radar aircraft.
