BAE Systems has delayed the first flight of Eurofighter Typhoon BT001,the initial two-seater fighter due for delivery to the UK Royal Air Force at the end of this year.

Revised planning had called for BT001's first flight in September, but BAE says it has pushed this back until next month, mainly because the UK government delayed service entry until December. Handover had been set for June this year.

BAE says it will use the additional time to complete work that was scheduled for after the first flight. The company adds that it has customer approval for the schedule alterations.

Meanwhile, EADS Casa started taxi trials of the first Typhoon for the Spanish air force at the end of last month.
