Ultra Electronics has secured its first retrofit customer for the UltraQuiet cabin system on Saab 340A and 340B aircraft.
Golden Air of Sweden was to sign a letter of intent today to buy five cabin systems for its Saab 340 fleet from the UK-based company.
UltraQuiet has been designed to reduce propeller tone, bringing cabin noise down to a level similar to that of modern regional jets.
Integrated into the trim of an aircraft, the system produces a cancelling noise within the cabin which is a mirror image of the original unwanted sound of the aircraft.
Residual noise is continually monitored by a network of microphones which means the system can adapt quickly to changes in flight conditions and passenger movement.
It is easy to install, minimising aircraft downtime, and once fitted there is no need for scheduled maintenance.

The product was designed by Ultra Electronics Noise and Vibrations Systems in Cambridge.
Rob McDonald, head of sales and marketing, is confident that there is a sizeable demand from operators worldwide.
"For just a small investment, 340A and B operators will be able to deliver the benefits of a quieter cabin environment without having to re-equip their fleet," he says.
Impressed with his new purchase, Golden Air general manager Anders Kallson says: "We like to regard ourselves as a small airline with a high priority on comfort, service and safety for our passengers."
