A Mil Mi-8MTV-1 helicopter crashed in Sierra Lione on 30 June, killing all 26 passengers and crew. The helicopter, operated by Russian UT air on behalf of the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the West African country, was on a flight from the capital, Freetown, when it crashed about five minutes from its destination, Yengema. It was at least the third Russian-made helicopter used by the UN to crash in Sierra Leone in less than three years.
