John Magaw, head of the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA), resigned unexpectedly on 18 July after fewer than six months in the post. No reason has been given for his exit, although he had come under fire in recent months for exceeding the budget. Magaw will be replaced by chief operating officer James Loy.
