Union yields to Northwest

The mechanics union that went on strike at Northwest Airlines in late August only to see replacements fill its jobs, is to let members vote directly on the airline’s offer. Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association negotiator Jeff Mathews told the 4,400 members of AMFA Local 33 that they “will be hard-pressed to find anything good in this contract offer”, which would save at most 539 jobs for the machinists.
