The UK Ministry of Defence has confirmed its intention to withdraw Panavia Tornado GR4 maintenance work from the Defence Aviation Repair Agency’s (DARA) St Athan site in south Wales from April 2007, causing 500 job losses. It also plans to open the agency’s Vickers VC10 support work to competition, threatening a further 350 posts. The MoD will also remove engine support work and 225 jobs from DARA’s Fleetlands site and will by mid-2007 decide whether to sell off the agency’s lucrative helicopter support business.
