United Airlines and US Airways have notified US authorities of their plans to codeshare. The two carriers previously failed to win regulatory approval for a merger because of anticompetitive concerns, but hope for a speedy review by the US Department of Transportation to allow them to start codesharing as soon as possible. It may help that US Airways is flirting with seeking bankruptcy protection and United is losing millions. Both have applied for large federal loan guarantees. The carriers have approval from their pilots for the codeshare.
