The United Arab Emirates could buy 16 Boeing CH-47F Chinook transport helicopters under a requested deal worth around $2 billion.
Outlined by the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), the possible sale follows earlier selections by the UAE of Boeing C-17 and Lockheed Martin C-130J fixed-wing transports, contracts for which have yet to be confirmed.

"The proposed [Chinook] sale will provide the United Arab Emirates the capability to transport equipment and troops in the region, as well as support US and NATO airlift requirements in Afghanistan," the DSCA says.
As notified to the US Congress earlier in December, the deal would also cover the provision of simulators, spare parts and support equipment.
